Sunderland EJ134 was a MKIII built at Short Brothers, Rochester, Kent. The aircraft went into 461 Squadron, RAAF on 31st December 1942 at Hamworthy Junction, Dorset, then to Pembroke Dock, Wales, when the Squadron moved there on 20th April 1943. EJ134's squadron designation was UT-'N' or N/461 with the call sign "N for Nuts". The following pictures taken at Hamworthy appear to show the aircraft under repair. N/461 was damaged after an aerial combat with two JU88's and two Focke Wulf 190's on February 13th, 1943. The tailplane which has been removed in the first two pictures of this series was, according to the combat report, damaged during that incident. |
